Local Activities

Boston, only an hour from the venue, is where the grooms have called home for the last 7 years. There is a little something for everyone, but the grooms wanted to highlight Tatte Bakery (the site of their first date), Bricco Panetteria in the North End (get the parmesan prosciutto loaf), the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum, the Harvard Museum of Natural History, Museum of Science, and the Charles River Esplanade (which takes you right by Boston University).

A bit closer you’ll find Newburyport, with a scenic town center, local beaches, and nearby to beautiful Castle Hill or Maudslay State Park where the couple got engaged.

Finally, just minutes from the venue you’ll find Canobie Lake Park, a local amusement park for the adventurous or young at heart. Brave the Yankee Cannonball, relax on the Sky Ride, or cool off on the Log Flume (but maybe not in your wedding outfit).

Q+A

  • What is on the menu?
Come hungry, because there will be plenty to indulge in! Directly following the ceremony will be the cocktail hour so everyone can mix and mingle while the newly-wed grooms go get their pictures taken. The open bar will have plenty of options (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) - enjoy yourself and your time with friends! After cocktail hour, guests will be seated for dinner where you can enjoy all the open buffet has to offer, followed by dessert.
The grooms have tried to do their due diligence when it comes to each of our guests dietary preferences/restrictions, but want to ensure that all our guests are able to enjoy themselves! To help us make sure you are taken proper care of, we encourage you to submit any dietary preferences, restrictions, and allergies you may have.
  • What is the dress code?
Semi-formal is encouraged, with a spring theme. The main requirement is that our guests feel comfortable; not under-dressing and freezing from a chilly evening or over-dressing and suffering a heat stroke from being in their “Sunday bests'”. We encourage you to see the “What will the weather be like?” and the “What activities should we expect…” Q&As to help you appropriately plan for the wedding.
For our guests who plan to wear a dress or skirt, no dress length max is required (just not white ;-)). Cocktail dresses, casual dresses, or whatever you feel fancy in! Pockets encouraged :-).
  • Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will be outdoors, weather permitting, Both the cocktail hour and dinner will be an indoor affair with opportunity to browse the grounds. If inclement weather is anticipated the day of the event, the entirety of the wedding will be relocated indoors.
  • What will the weather be like?
This is the optimal time for a beautiful New England spring. Based on previous years, you can expect gorgeous sunny days and temperatures ranging between 60s to mid 70s Farenheit (about 17 - 23 °C for our metric system friends). A light suit jacket or medium shawl might be recommended for any nighttime activities.
  • I live out of state - how do I make it to the venue?
Good news! We will have a bus shuttle to help guests to-and-from the venue and the hotel. This might be especially useful in case you want to enjoy a drink or three at the reception. More details on the bus shuttle will be available closer to the event.
  • Will there be parking?
Plenty, and free of charge! For our local friends who plan to drive to the venue, there are two lots: a small, upper lot and a large, lower lot. The upper lot will be reserved for our guests who need short walking distances to be seated quickly or for folks who require low incline wheelchair ramps. If the upper lot fills up, don’t fret! The lower parking lot is quite extensive, and has access to stairs or an elevator. The elevator will lead to a stairless network for those with walkers or wheelchairs.
  • Can I take pictures?
We are having an "unplugged ceremony" (no phones or cameras). Please enjoy the ceremony, and smile for the professional photographers! We will share photos when we recieve them after the wedding. During the reception, you're welcome to take photos and vidoes to your heart's content!
  • Can I bring a plus one?
Due to limited space, we are only able to accommodate formally invited guests. If you received a plus one, it will be indicated on your wedding invitation. Thank you for understanding!
  • What activities should we expect for the exciting day?
Throughout the evening, there will be options to enjoy your time indoors or outdoors (weather permitting). Outside the reception hall is an extensive wrap-around deck and small garden where you will find areas to take photos or chat with friends. There will also be a more quiet section of the venue where you and your guests can get comfortable under a small heated patio, in the event the weather turns chilly at night. Inside the reception hall will be a dance floor with DJ (so bring your boogie shoes) which will be climate controlled throughout the event. At some point, there may even be a special game folks of all ages/abilities can play…
  • I have more questions...
    We have more answers! Probably!
You can contact the grooms at sheets.wheeler [at] gmail.com.
